基因克隆和转基因技术是基因工程操作的主要组成部分。基因克隆指把外源基因与克隆载体进行体外连接，继而转化宿主细胞，筛选出含有目的基因重组质粒的转化子。转基因技术指将人工分离和修饰过的基因导入到生物体基因组或者细胞中，由于导入基因的表达，引起生物体性状或者表型的可遗传的修饰。
